Wenceslas Square

Once known as the Horse Market is today the center of city life full of shops, business offices, discos, casinos, hotels, restaurants. At the upper end of the almost 1-kilometre-long, more of a boulevard than a square, stands the National Museum with the statue of St.Wenceslas and a memorial to Jan Palach and Jan Zajíc (2 young men who burnt themselves to death here in 1969 in protest against the Warsaw Pact forces occupation.
